HO DCC Decoder recommendation by Locomotive type.
By no means is this a complete list of HO locomotives.  We have attempted to show many HO locomotives with recommended Digitrax, NCE and Lenz decoder.  All of the recommended decoders are in order of ease of installation. As we gather new data this list will be updated regularly, so keep an eye on it.
How this list works;  Scroll down the list of locomotives on the left, when you find your locomotive you can select from the appropriate decoders from the drop down menu.  Once you see the decoder simply select it with your mouse, you will be taken to the information page for that particular decoder.  Once on the Info page you can select the quantity of this decoder you would like to purchase.

For HO applications, most modern high efficiency can motors draw less than 1/2 amp when running and less than 1 amp when stalled at 12V DC. These motors are suitable for use with 1.5 amp
Note: Some older HO motor designs (older Athearn open frame motors, Pittman motors, etc.) may exceed the 1.0 amp limit and you may need to use a 1.5 amp. 2.0 amp or other higher current decoder such as the 3.0 amp DG380L in these applications.
